dotToday gTLD and Online Magazine System's Executive Status Report Today
The role-out date of the dotToday online Magazine System, is nearing the finish line! From the 12th of December the pre-registration window is open. Daily UDT people are consulting with social media -, marketing – and gTLD experts, and its financial representatives and business angels with potential investors. In the following paragraphs we have outlined the key issues, answers, questions and reasoning related to these issues.
Private investors
Many potential investors are skeptical, they cannot decide. Feedback from the first rounds of interviews and presentations tells us that many investors are eagerly listening to our magazine system dotToday project proposal and directly after ask for legal council from their experts. Most frequently mentioned concern is the complexity of the ICANN organization, outcome of the US senate hearings, the contra lobby of the multinational companies and therefore the overall insecurity about the issuing, and roadmap for the new gTLD’s. Legal costs to defend positions and uphold trademark rights play a serious role - given the opportunities of the new dotToday domain business as a stand alone multi million business (dotToday is indeed a powerful name), or the rollout of the Magazine System linked to the dotToday domain name together (an even bigger business) - this surprises us. Some visionary investors see the opportunity.
Name industry investors
Investors state that gTLD projects are touching on too many new and innovative issues, and everyone else can create new gTLD’s (Yesterday, Today, tomorrow, after-tomorrow etc.). The total matter and the outcome of the ICANN decisions are very difficult to understand for an outsider. This is why UDT needs to make investors understand ICANN as an organization; it’s objectives, risks, the name industry as a branch and how to interpret these elements. Finally; What is good strategy?
Content industry investors
The dotToday Online Magazine System is targeting industrial scale, production, management and distribution of content.
This is print- or broadcasted media. Key to the realization of the Magazine System is the individual or industrial editor providing articles, news, opinions, blogs, responses etc. A question often heard is "why not to build a magazine system under the dotCom?" Answer: "We cannot build the dotToday project under a dotcom, because it is a top level domain project which includes also the name".
What is UDT waiting for?
The realization of the dotToday Magazine System project’s technical background and improvement of the existing system is planned to take some two years. The ICANN process for name allocation, procedures, tests and pre-registration is also expected to take two years. So in effect the two processes can run parallel ending with the launch of the project.
UDT’s vision
There is a growing demand for quality content production and presentation in the market. Facebook, twitter and other social networks are showing similar trends. To fulfill the needs for quality content and constant engagement, day to day communication within the communities is required. UDT envisions such developments for each participating entity to ultimately become a social enterprise.
Openness is the only survival strategy.
UDT wants to provide the infrastructure to enable this process with it’s Online Magazine System.
Why to apply or pre-register?
To ensure future use of a unique new domain name, UDT believes that entities should register a dotToday domain. The use of a new Top Level Domain name of a higher hierarchy will shake up and re-structure the industry following a new, friendlier human logic. With the current trends and the direction the Internet is taking, the new Magazine System of UDT will fulfill a considerable need.
